Gordon Hayward, nationally recognized author, garden designer and speaker will present a workshop sponsored by the Maryland Horticulture Society, “Fine Painting as Inspiration for Garden Design, ” on February 28th. Hayward challenges the gardener to look at the landscape the way artists look at their canvas. He illustrates the techniques of depth, lighting, focal points, mass, volume used by artists including Hassam, Klimt, Cezanne, Dufy, Matisse by juxtaposing images of their works with images of his and his wife, Mary’ gardens in Vermont and the Cotswold Hills of England.
