Columbia River and Pacific Ocean

Columbia River and Pacific Ocean

Further up the coast of Oregon from Cannon Beach is the town of Astoria, once know for its canning industry.  The homes cling to its rocky slopes as you wind your way up to the point where you can see the Columbia River to the left and the Pacific Ocean straight ahead.  The Columbia River was where Lewis and Clark ended their western expedition and is considered the mighty river of the Northwest.  Further inland the Williamette River, a tributary of the Columbia River, flows south to Portland, Oregon, the Rose City.
