Horticultural Society of Maryland’s Garden Tour
This year’s garden tour sponsored by the Horticultural Society of Maryland offered a glimpse of seven gardens in Baltimore County, Maryland. The beginning of the tour led us into the woods, a canopy of trees with a brook running through the glade. One garden had quadrants of serviceberry trees (amelanchier) in a bed of vinca. How native plant correct, the berries to be had by the birds waiting for their intruders to depart. The carpet of vinca, a perfect choice for the limbed up multi-stemmed amelanchiers. Wolfgang Oehme designed a tour garden, his use of texture evident in the autumn fern beside a hardy begonia. Last was a garden sparse of plant matter except moss. Huge boulders.
