Rhododendrun Plate from Swiss Published Book, 1946

Thursday, we stumbled upon this gem of a book, “Berg Blumen Der Heimat” at The Kelmscott Bookshop in Baltimore, MD.  “The Mountain Flowers Home” translated for us by Google has incredible colored illustrations and the fact that this garden book was published the year after the Second World War gives pause.  When was the book in the works, for how long.  Was there pent up interest in it.  Was it a sign that things would/were getting better.

There’s the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB)/ Ligue Internationale de la Librairie Ancienne (LILA) in New York this weekend at the Park Avenue Armory and with hope, we will be there in 10 hours.  Can not wait to see more wonderful garden books.
