Sunflowers and Roses for Sisters Academy
The first class of 8th graders from Sisters Academy walked up the aisle of the College of Notre Dame’s Chapel this past June for their commencement. A mache (cardboard) vase held red roses, their favorite flower. Just for fun and the joy of being young we added sunflowers to the arrangement. You might say it’s a curious mix but each flower stands for a child who came to Sisters Academy, a Catholic middle school in Lansdowne with a sponsor to underwrite their education and the The School Sisters of Notre Dame, The Sisters of Mercy, The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and The Sisters of Bon Seours there to guide these young women from books to how to look you in the eye with pleasure and shake your hand. The rose is regal and the sunflower happy.
