Cherry Blossoms in Our Nation's Capital

Cherry Blossom Festival Time.  From March 28th through April 12th a tradition that began with a gift from Japan in 1912, Washington, D.C. will celebrate The National Cherry Blossom Festival ( Prunus x yedoensis).  Their website gives the timing of the bud stages of the trees since the 1990s.    Weatherwise the bloom period starts when Mother Nature happens to let 20 % of the blossoms open and ends when the petals fall and the leaves appear.  The beauty centers around the Thomas Jefferson Memorial on the Tidal Basin.  For further info about all the Festival activities go to:
