Camellia sasanqua Narmigate, Longwood Gardens

Camellia sasanqua Narmigate, Longwood Gardens

On a recent trip to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA, this lovely camellia, Camellia sasanqua Narumigate, fragrant and long blooming caught our sight and scent.  The shrub growing in their Conservatory is being tested by Longwood’s horticulturists who are pollinating with pollen the Camellia azalea to produce an ever-blooming species.  Their goal is to find a seed of the hybrid camellia that would have a beautiful fragrance and flower throughout the year which would then be introduced to the nursery trade.  We wait with anticipation.
