After dinner last night we strolled along Las Olas, the walk of walks in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There I discovered Ann’s Florist.  This morning I was there by 10:30 am to take an inside view of the windows I saw last night.  She has the best silk flowers I’ve seen.  Maybe because there were a […]

Here in Broward County, home of Fort Lauderdale what does everyone do when they want to beat the sun?  They go to Sawgrass Mills, probably the second largest tourist attraction behind Disney World in Florida.  Today we went there twice.  I will not bore you with details except for the one here in the picture. […]

The Bonnet House, named for the bonnet lily that grows there, is situated on a a barrier island in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mangroves on one side and the AIA (Ocean Boulevard),  public beaches and blue, blue, blue Atlantic Ocean on the other.  The plantation style house is built of cinderblock from the local sand […]

Further up the coast of Oregon from Cannon Beach is the town of Astoria, once know for its canning industry.  The homes cling to its rocky slopes as you wind your way up to the point where you can see the Columbia River to the left and the Pacific Ocean straight ahead.  The Columbia […]

This is something worth flying to Portland,Oregon to see, (besides your dear childhood friend) then driving 70 miles to the beach.  A lava formation that stands 235 feet tall, it just sticks out of the water like Mont St. Michel on the Normandy Coast of France.  Only it’s not inhabitated by a living thing just seagulls […]

Here is a mixed bouquet from Sam’s Club.  I was drawn to the wonderful blue agapanthus and deep red gerbers so I bought it with an experiment in mind.  How many arrangements could I make with all this material:  4 red gerber daisies, 5 red alstromeria, 3 blue agapanthus, 3 blue delphinium, 3 eucalyptus, […]

Seventh arrangement – this is probably my favorite.  So simple, yet the glass makes the daisies step up in style.  These yellow daisies caught up in some long grass perk up any nook and cranny.

At first you look at this arrangement of all red with greens and think Christmas.  But think again.  The vase is neutral and when you put this piece in the same room as the red gerbers, it just carries the color with the eye following.  If you wanted to use this arrangement in a […]

Four Gerber Daisies each in a bubble glass bud vase.  You can put them in a line on a table, at the place setting of each of your guests, split them up and bring them back together again.  Their little heads love to talk and have fun.

The Agapanthus and Delphiniums are so beautiful, so different from each other, one round and the other straight and tall. Great counterpoints to the small mass of yellow poms that they surround.  The container plays off their colors too.

The last of the dissected arrangement.  What is left is one stalk of eucalyptus.  I put this in a vase which reminds me of a pen and ink stand   And one stalk of delphinium which I took  apart and put the flowerets in a little white china bowl filled with a bath of water. […]

Circus roses with millet.  I wanted to play off the hot yellow tinged with red against a lime background.  Actually I used 3 greens to lift this arrangement up but the most prominent is the millet.  Don’t you feel like this piece could just shake its head to dry its hair before stepping out for […]
