This individually made planter and tray really complement the ornamental pepper plant. Our veterinarian said she likes plants like they are her pets and was so happy to call another one her own.  The pot was made by an artisan from the Potters Guild of Baltimore.  It’s just as much fun to match up vases […]

I carried this vase back from Portland stowed with three others in my carry-on.  It is so versatile – can go from the bar to the table.  The arrangement is similar to a topiary – the sunflowers on high and the purple alstromeria around the base.  The purple complements the yellow nicely and the alstro […]

Thank you all for tuning in.  It is appropriate to show one of my first products, a posie of carnations.    While I did not sell them like hotcakes this arrangement took me places and opened doors.  People would ask, “Are they real?”  I know there is a market for these little posies because they are […]

The Basics Dish, Oasis and Tape     This is ugly, downright ugly, but we are going to make this dish hold some lovely flowers.  First we’ll surround it with greens, called “greening” and then build from there.  You can purchase this dish from the “Vases” page on CarlisleFlowers.net, as well as the oasis and […]

( This follows post, “Basic Plastic Bowl.” So here we go.  Now that the dish has been greened with tree fern, variegated pittosporum and some seeded eucalyptus, we are ready to put the fun things in.  But notice we’ve hidden the dish before we put the flowers in.  First the lilies, then the lines – […]

It’s always exciting when after making the arrangements for the day you have a few pieces left for yourself.  Here are four mini calla lilies and one piece of stock. in a bud vase.  The lavender stock brings out the light tone in the callas.  When you have an arrangement this small it grows […]

When visiting London in May I wrote about the best gardening bookstore there, Blenheim Books.  One of my purchases was Transparent by Daniel Ost.  I first wrote that his book was a mind altering experience.  See for yourself.  His website is Danielost.be.  Ost’s concept of marrying the flower with the vase is so apparent […]

The changing shades of purple larkspur complement the different tones of heather transitioning summer into fall.  Both are spiral flowers and the pink lilies surround them.  A little limonium fills in with three greens, there I go again three greens:  tree fern, variegated pittosporum and salal, and I forgot a fourth, seeded eucalyptus.

Here are two more greens, variegated pittosporum on the left and tree fern on the right.  They work very nicely together.  The pitt gives you two colors, green and cream.  It is not pliable but some of the branches do have curves.  A little can take you a long way.  The tree fern is airy.  […]

The holidays are coming so let’s do a series on greens and fillers.  Here are two greens, seeded eucalyptus on the left and salal on the right.  Salal comes in branches about two feet high with smaller branches of the  main one.  Its leaves are not a bright green which can work to your advantage.  […]

A quiet dinner with friends to end the weekend calls for something restrained as the centerpiece to ease into another work week.  Here we have pastels in pink and cream to add the soft touch.

Dahlias on Top The red with yellow centered dahlias set the tone for this arrangement.  Gomphrenia (the little orange and red furry balls) play off the sword like petals of the dahlias.  In fact everything else in the piece is small and round with the exception of the goldenrod (yellow) making the dahlias the king […]
